Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is now one of the top 200 universities in the world!

In the highly prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject 2015, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore is listed as one of the top 200 universities in the world in 10 discipline areas. This result is the highest amongst any of the comprehensive universities in Italy, a result which reflects the growing prominence of Università Cattolica in the areas of academic performance, research citations and employment outcomes.

The rankings use sophisticated metrics to ensure that appropriate measures and comparisons are made across thousands of universities worldwide. The results are subsequently analysed against the categories of Academic, Employer and Citations with the mean score for each category determining thousands of universities worldwide position by discipline area.


In Philosophy, Università Cattolica is listed as one of the top 51 to 100 universities in the world, while Economics & Econometrics and Law rank in the top 150.

In the Employer Reputation category, Università Cattolica achieved an exceptionally high figure of 79.6 for Economics & Econometrics, whilst under the category of Academic Reputation, the score of 64.6 for Philosophy was the highest academic score across all discipline areas.

In seven discipline areas, Università Cattolica was listed in the top 151 to 200 universities in the world. This included Medicine where the University achieved a score of 83.1 for Citations, reflecting the Faculty's international research prowess. The six other areas in the 151 to 200 listing were Linguistic, Modern Languages, Agriculture & Forestry, Psychology, Accounting & Finance, and Business & Management Studies with the score of 89.6 for Agriculture in the category of Employer representing the highest individual score overall.

The Rector of Università Cattolica, Professor Franco Anelli, affirmed the importance of consistent performance across all discipline areas.

"These results reflect the University's position as a truly comprehensive university where high standards of quality, performance and graduate outcomes have been consistent across all discipline areas. For any university to be listed in the top 200 in the world against several discipline areas would a stellar outcome in its own right. At Università Cattolica we achieved this against every discipline area.

This achievement has been made the more remarkable by the elevation in standing in so many disciplines, which is indicative of a university that is committed to both the quality of teaching and research and the future outcomes of our students."

The Rector's delegate for Internationalization, Professor Pier Sandro Cocconcelli, underlined the global dimension of Università Cattolica's achievement:

"The fact that such success is based around the long-standing QS measures, measures which enjoy international renown across academic circles, further reinforces the University's accomplishment. Università Cattolica stands head and shoulders with the best in the world."

UCSC International Director at Università Cattolica, Mr Edilio Mazzoleni, highlighted the importance of this success to the University's future.

"Over the past decade, rankings have evolved into the most important comparative measure used by students from around the world to determine the quality, reputation and recognition of different universities. Such an outstanding achievement cements the University's position on the world stage and enables the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore to reach new markets and engage with students, scholars and researchers from a position of strength."
