Useful information for AFRICA SCHOLARSHIP selected candidates ("LAUREA MAGISTRALE" / 2-YEAR GRADUATE PROGRAMS @ MILAN CAMPUS ONLY)

1. If selected for the Africa PARTIAL Scholarship, you have to pay 500€ as a deposit in order to confirm your place in the "corso di laurea magistrale" you have been admitted to (Banking & Finance OR International Management OR Economics). Click here to download the payment instructions and the deposit refund policy. The deposit payment is not applicable to candidates selected for the full scholarship. The later you pay, the higher the risk that no more places are available.

2. Upon receipt of the payment, the International Admissions Office will send you an official admission letter via e-mail addressed to the Italian Consulate/Embassy in your country.

3. In May, you have to submit formal request of pre-enrolment to UCSC at the Italian Consulate/Embassy in your country (click here for a full list). The opening dates for pre-enrolment are established every year by the Italian Ministry for Education; the closing dates are set by each Italian Consulate. The pre-enrolment period is usually from mid-May to mid-June.

Please find a list of the basic documents required for pre-enrolment (it is however important that you verify the consulate's web site for any additional requirements):

• Pre-enrolment application form – "Form A" (you can download it here);
• Admission letter from UCSC (Italian version);
• 2 passport-size photos;
• The original copy of your bachelor's degree and the original copy of the transcript of academic records, duly legalised by the competent authorities of the country that issued them (see below);
• The "Dichiarazione di Valore" of your bachelor's degree;

In case you live in a country which is different from the one that issued your passport, you can ask the Italian Embassy/Consulate of the country where you live if they are willing to accept your pre-enrolment request.

Please note that in some African countries there is no Italian representation.

• If you are from Botswana, you have to refer to the Italian Embassy in Lusaka.
• If you are from Rwanda, you have to refer to the Italian Embassy in Kampala.
• If you are from Sierra Leone, you have to refer to the Italian Embassy in Abidjan

4. Starting from August, the Italian Embassy/Consulate will contact you in order to start the study visa procedure. These are the general visa requirements (verify the consulate's web site for any additional requirements):

visa application form;
• passport-size picture;
• passport valid for at least 3 months after visa expiry date;
• proof of financial means of support in Italy of not less than €417.30 for each month of the academic year (which amounts to a total of around €5.000);
• proof of available accomodation in Italy.

Please note that the COST OF LIVING IN MILAN IS HIGHER than the amount estimated by the Embassy. We have prepared a summary of the expenses that a student aged 25, enrolled in the Laurea Magistrale in Banking & Finance on a partial scholarship and placed in one of UCSC dorms ("Buonarroti dorm") has to spend during the first 5 months in Milan (September-December).

First 5 months expenses*

Italian Language & Culture Course  € 325,00
Permesso di soggiorno                  € 153,30
First instalment                           € 1300,00
Housing                                      € 2905,00**
Food & Beverage
                          € 800,00
Health Insurance
                            € 98,00***
Local Transportation
                       € 90,00
_______________________________________

Total                                           € 5671,30

* Costs may vary depending on the type of accommodation, area and contract details. Costs valid for the A. Y. 2011/2012
** (6 months rent to be paid in advance)
*** If you purchase it in Italy

As you can see, the amount required by the Embassy is not enough even to pay for the expenses of the first 5 months. You have to expect to cover a minimum of about 10.000 euro per year for your expenses.

5. Housing: if you want to be placed in one of UCSC dorms, please visit MIL Service website (www.milservice.com) and fill the "contact us" form to find out the prices, the locations, the rules of conduct.
6. Classes of the "corsi di laurea magistrale" start every year on the third week of September. At the beginning of September, the International Office organises a Welcome Day for all new international students. On that day, students are provided with useful information to successfully start their study experience at UCSC.
7. Instalment plan: The Partial Scholarship allows you to pay € 2.000 per year instead of € 8.500. You will have to pay the yearly tuition fees in 2 instalments according to the following plan:

INSTALMENT     AMOUNT                          DEADLINE
1                         € 1300                              31/10/2012
2                          €  700 (200+500 deposit)   30/01/2013

8. Italian Language & Culture Course. Although the degree program you have been admitted to is taught in English, we warmly suggest that you attend the Italian language and culture course (http://milano.unicatt.it/5062.html, updated info for the new academic year will soon be available). The percentage of English-speaking people in Italy is low when compared to other European countries and most student services at UCSC are only available in Italian. Moreover, proficiency in Italian is required when looking for a job in our country.

9. Job opportunities: although the permit of stay allows students to work for a maximum of 20 hours per week, it is extremely hard for non-EU students to find a job in Milan, especially in the first year of their studies. UCSC International Office does NOT provide any support in this regard.
